LAKES
BERRYESSA: Water is stained at the north end. It's fishable in Skiers Cove to the south end. (707) 255-5544; (916) 502-3474
CAMANCHE: A 7-pound trout caught by Mark Ellenberg of Valley Springs was the big fish of the week. The big rainbow was caught near the dam trolling with a rainbow Apex. Trout bite is improving but pressure is light. Water has cleared and there are plants every other week. (209) 763-5915, (209) 763-5166
CHABOT: Water is murky but trout are starting to move into the shallows. Best bite for shore anglers has been at Coot's Landing and in Indian Cove. Bright Power Bait is best way to go. (510) 247-2526
CONTRA LOMA: Fishing has been slow this week. Trout fishing is OK. Try using a variety of Power Baits or night crawlers at the boat ramp area or near the Swim Lagoon. (510) 544-3154 - 3153
DEL VALLE: Trout bite is good at the East Beach and lower narrows with chartreuse or rainbow Power Bait. Mice Tails and Power Worms in green or orange work well. A sturgeon estimated at 50 to 55 inches was caught and released. The fish took anchovies in the lower Narrows. It was landed with a Barbie pole with4-pound test. (925) 449-5201
LAFAYETTE: Regulars continue to catch catfish at the Tower. The south end is the place for trout. Shore anglers and boaters use night crawlers for two to five fish per outing. Water visibility is good. A bonus plant of trout will go in next week. (925) 284-9669
LOS VAQUEROS: DFG planted 2,000 pounds Tuesday and another 2,000 pounds is going in today. Trout fishing is best in the South Cove from shore or by boat in Peninsula Cove. Those fishing for stripers are releasing shakers and keeping bass to 4 pounds. (925) 371-2628
MOUNT TAMALPAIS LAKES: Bon Tempe last week received 1,900 pounds of trout in two plants while neighboring Lagunitas received 500 pounds. A special holiday stocking program put an additional 750 pounds in Bon Tempe later in the week. (415) 945-1194
QUARRY LAKES: Trout fishing is good and limits are common. Peninsula Point and Kiosk Cove have been hot spots, but trout are being caught all over the lake. Just about any bait or lure will work. (510) 544-3133
SHADOW CLIFFS: Anglers are getting anywhere from two fish to limits from both bank and shore. Large plants of trout are going in this week and next week. (510) 544-3230, (925) 426-0197
RIVERS
GUALALA: The river is in ideal shape, although rain is on the way. Steelhead are being caught by flyfishers. (707) 884-4247
NAPA: Sturgeon fishing is good. There are good numbers of keepers and lots of shakers. There is a good bite all the way to Kennedy Park, just south of Napa. The whole system has sturgeon. Live grass shrimp works best. Ghost or mud shrimp will work as will a big clump of night crawlers. (707) 255-5544
RUSSIAN: River is 2,300 cfs at Hacienda Bridge but there is rain predicted for the coming weekend. This won't be fishable until after New Year's. Wild steelhead were being caught last weekend. So that's a good sign. (707) 869-2156
DELTA
ANTIOCH: Striper bite has slowed with the colder water. Sturgeon bite is decent but best action is 30 to 45 feet of water near the PG&E plant. (925) 706-7400
BENICIA: The few boats going out are heading to the east end of the Mothball Fleet for sturgeon. Montezuma Slough also has been a productive spot. Bank anglers get a few striped bass. Boaters are still picking a few from the Mothball Fleet. Bullhead or mudsuckers are good baits. (707) 745-4921
FRANKS TRACT: Striped bass bite is good at Big Break and Franks Tract. Troll with P-Line Predators, crank and retrieve Rat-l-Traps or cast hairraisers. Some bass are in the 8-to 10-pound range. Black bass are in deep water and the bite is tough. Use jigs or drop-shots. (925) 625-2441
PITTSBURG: Fishing has been slow since the last storm. There is debris in the water and cold temperatures have put the bite off. (925) 252-0151
RIO VISTA: Sturgeon fishing has been good in Grizzly Bay, Sherman Island near the Powerlines and in Cache Slough, past the ferry. Skagg Slough near Dixon also has been productive. Shrimp baits are best producers. Stripers are still hanging around the Rio Vista Bridge. Those drifting live minnows have been attracting bass in the 19- to 24-inch class. (707) 374-2372
TRACY: Stripers were caught over the weekend but very few anglers have been out since. The water in Grant Line Canal is fairly clear, which makes this an attractive option. (209) 835-3182
SALTWATER
BERKELEY: Weekend trips brought back limits of crab and cod. Weather may cancel trips this weekend. (510) 849-3333, (510) 223-5388, (707) 334-4827
BODEGA BAY: Humboldt squid trips will begin after Jan. 1. (707) 875-3344;
EMERYVILLE: Last trips were over the weekend and limits of crab and cod were brought back both days by all three boats. Trips are on a day-to-day basis through the holidays. No trips Dec. 24 and 25. (510) 654-6040
MONTEREY: Checkmate went out Monday for limits of crab and cod for 14. Call for next trip. Squid/crab combos will start after Jan. 1. (831) 375-5951; (831) 372-7440
PACIFICA: Wind created chop Monday and Tuesday. When the weather was nice over the weekend crabbing was good. Still a lot of females but there are enough male crabs to keep anglers happy. (650) 355-8303, (650) 359-9790
PILLAR POINT: Queen of Hearts is done for the year. Humboldt squid trips may go after the first of the year. Last trip was Saturday and it was limits for 20 and four lings fishing below Pescadero. (650) 726-7133, (510) 581-2628
PORT SONOMA: Sturgeon fishing is decent, but striper bite is better. Sonoma Creek and the shallow water in San Pablo Bay have been good spots for sturgeon. Stripers are at the mouth of the Petaluma River. Napa River also is worth a try. (707) 762-7818
SAN FRANCISCO: Attention is on sturgeon. Anglers have been going to the pier in larger numbers and more boats are taking to the bay. Not many sturgeon have come back, though. (650) 589-3474; (510) 703-4148
SAN PABLO BAY: Sturgeon fishing remains very good even after the big tides have gone away. There are bass in the area. Most are small, but a 15-pounder was caught last week. A big bass is 6 to 7 pounds. There are good tides after Christmas. (415) 456-0321
SUISUN BAY: Sturgeon fishing is good for those getting out between storms. Boaters are going from the Glomar to Buoy 9 for sturgeon. Some have been caught from the Martinez Pier. Eel/grass shrimp combos are best. (925) 229-9420, (916) 777-6498
