Tuna fishing turning on...Venice La.
We have had some very good weather lately, much better as compared to the beginning of January. As most of you probably saw from watching the Super Bowl festivities on TV, we had blue skies, light winds, and temps. in the mid 60's for most of last week. With weather like that you had best be out fishing this time of the year because the results are usually excellent. Last Friday we had three boats out. Two groups from Oviedo, Fl. and one from Hudson, Wi. The results the first day were very good. Capt. Willy B. had 9 Yellow fin with the largest going about 150 lbs. and I had 2 Yellow fin, 10 black fin fin tuna, and 2 Amberjack. The second day was not as productive, the tuna bite was a little off as compared to the day before and wahoo were no where to be found, although we did have perfect conditions. Capt. Willy B had 1 Yellow fin and 1 Warsaw grouper on the day, and I had 1 black fin tuna and 1 amberjack on the day, with a lot of throw back species, like King Mackerel, Sharks, and Bonita. So our Tuna season has definitely started and will just keep getting better as we move further into February and March. However, if you are planning on making a trip down here to get in on the bite, now is the time to go. We have had very good weather lately and hopefully it continues. We have open days this week and next.
