Fishing Highlights - Aug 25-Sept 8, 2012 Tropic Star Lodge Pinas Bay Panama

Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna,  Cubera Snapper

Marlin fishing is on!ABattista-Wahoo-74-4lbs-400The billfish action has been good although it’ had slowed somewhat over the past few days. The good news is that there some really big fish around. The Black Marlin are averaging 500 lbs and Blue Marlin around 400 lbs.Sailfish have been showing up sporadically but it’s safe to say that most of them have left the area but the ones that we call ‘residents’ are big, in the 100-130 lb range. There’s also a good Yellowfin Tuna bite going on offshore and we catching some decent sized fish in the 50-100 lb range. Roosterfish are still abundant inshore and one boat released 9 in just over three hours fishing.
Olympic Gold Medalist Boxer, Terry Witzu, had what we call a Tropic Star “trip of a lifetime”. In 6 days he released 2 Black Marlin (600+ lbs)4 Pacific Blue Marlin and 6 Pacific Sailfish.  This was his first time deep sea fishing and we were all so happy for him. Congrats Terry and we’ll see you again next season. Andy Di Battista released his first Black Marlin, a fish of a lifetime, estimated at 650 lbs, and also caught a huge Wahoo that weighed in at 74 lbs. Doug Dixon also had great luck and released his first  550 lb Black Marlin. Marla Sanders released her first Black Marlin in the400 lb range and her sister Shelly Sanders also released her first Pacific Blue Marlin estimated at 450 lbs. Lew Curatolo and George Courtney both released their first Pacific Blue Marlin estimated at 400 lbs, and James Faulk Jr. also got his first around 350 lbs. Phil Saxe released hisfirst Pacific Blue Marlin, a biggie, estimated at 500 lbs. and Doug and Jeff Dixon released a pair of nice 400 lb Pacific Blue Marlin.
Betty Terhark released both her first Black Marlin and Pacific Blue Marlin, 350 lbs. Her husband Terry also released his first Pacific Blue Marlin in the 350 lb rangeJeff Terhark, Andrew Cannestra, John O’Brien and Dale Querrey released their first Pacific Blue Marlin estimated at 350 lbs. Hope you enjoy some of the incredible photos shot here over the last two weeks.  I cannot wait to see what next week brings. The bite is excellent and the drags are burning up! Mark and Peggy Rose were also here last week and had their fair share of good fishing. They hammered the Roosterfish inshore on 2 days and released 9 on one evening including nice pair of Cubera Snappers.
Tight Lines!
